Oil Spill Not Expected to Land on SWFL Beaches

The recent media frenzy over the Gulf oil spill disaster has captured all of America’s attention – including those of real estate investors and realtors alike. People looking to purchase property in Southwest Florida are now asking themselves, “Is this the right time to invest in Southwest Florida?” In a nutshell, yes! The NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) has been watching the effects of the oil spill closely, and have been using the modeling of historical wind and ocean currents to anticipate where (and how much) the oil spill will affect other states. According to a recent release, West Florida has only a 1%-20% chance of seeing oil on its beaches, with Southwest Florida ranking at the lowest end (Naples, Fort Myers, Cape Coral).
What does this mean for potential newcomers/investors in the Real Estate Market? The NOAA isn’t predicting Southwest Florida to bear effects of the spill, meaning our beaches should remain as pristine and beautiful as ever. Of course, purchasing real estate in any market is always a personal choice - just don’t let the threat of the oil spill take away your chance to own a little piece of paradise (and at a great price)!
